TRANLATION OF LIVE INTERVIEW WITH ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF DANZA CORPUS
My name is Jose Angel Carret I was born in Sagua La Grande , Province of Villa Clara , Cuba . Later on moved to the city of Matanzas where I trained at the School for Instructors of Arts , I am very grateful of the training I received from the teachers of the school such as Servia , Nora Hernandez . From 1991 I worked as a principal dancer for the professional company Danza Espiral from Matanzas, and worked with many important choreographers such as : Narciso Medina , Ramiro Guerra and teachers as Rosario Cardenas who contributed to my career as a principal dancer and choreographer . Was in this company where I began my career as a choreographer and I really grateful for that , I have the chance to present my works in several festivals and competitions , and I received national awards for my work as a dancer and choreographer which had enriched my career such as The Grand Prix at the Diana Alfonso Festival , and First Best male interpretation , and Best Interpretation at Solamente Solo’s Competition with one of my works performed by one of my female dancers . I performed Narciso Medina ‘s piece: “Metamorfosis” which is a well-known classical piece in the Cuban Contemporary Repertoire . In 2001 I founded Danza Corpus , with dancers from different schools , now with 10 years of existence , have given me the chance to continue my development as a choreographer and as a mentor of Modern/Contemporary and Afro –Cuban Dance . I could say that Danza Corpus is one of the dance groups in Cuba , that mixed the traditional Afro-Cuban dance with Contemporary , Modern and popular Cuban dance to represent and reflect the life of the Cuban people and its history and reach all audiences in each work , as well as incorporating the global contemporary dance tendencies .
